Inspiration of the Lansdowne Portrait of George Washington

This work of art was inspired by Washington's role in America as an orator, leader, and a father of his country. In the photo, he is wearing a plain black suit with no wig. Quite interesting because I thought that most authorities back then wore wigs. His hair does look distinguished though without the wig. I think that realizing that, George decided to go natural. His shoes are very flat though. They add no inches to his height whatsoever. However, that is how he was portrayed on a daily-work basis during his life.
